We are a year into the global COVID crisis, and World Meriters have carried out many projects to help their communities. Now, we are participating in the largest single-focus global project EVER, and we hope you will join us. You know that World Merit has done work with various UN agencies in the past, and was one of the first organizations to activate to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Now, World Merit is a lead participant supporting UNICEF’s vaccination efforts. UNICEF has been appointed as the primary vaccination agency in the world because they already do over a billion vaccinations a year around the world. Two months ago, we received approval to start a private sector vaccination support collaboration. A World Merit Vaccination Task Force started immediately to plan this recruiting effort, and to understand what World Merit volunteers might do. And the COVAX Volunteer List was born! This was all before any vaccines were even approved. Other global organizations that are participating include Rotary / Rotaract members, and YPO members. The COVAX Volunteer List has names and contact information of people who are willing to be asked to volunteer in their communities with COVID related projects. COVAX is the World Health Organization (WHO) global vaccine project. WE ARE ASKING YOU TO SIGN UP FOR THE COVAX VOLUNTEER LIST. Why signup for the COVAX volunteer list? There are many reasons. To start with, your family. To protect them, they deserve the most accurate information and a safe vaccine. Then, the 8 billion fellow citizens you share the world with. Take a moment to think through how difficult it will be to communicate to all of them, to get them to a vaccination site when a safe vaccine becomes available in your community. Don’t you want to help? What will you tell your grandchildren when they ask you what you did during the Great Pandemic of 2020-21? What might a COVAX volunteer do? • If you are medically trained, you might be called to handle vaccines or give vaccinations • Transport vaccines, materiel, and people • Share important, timely, and accurate information • Organize and mobile volunteers • Set up and support vaccination sites - to prepare to vaccinate hundreds or thousands of people a day, space, chairs, supplies, and shelter is needed What does signing up for the COVAX Volunteer List mean for you? As a COVAX volunteer - your name and contact information is shared with local officials who MAY need your help. If you are contacted, you can CHOOSE whether you will carry out the requested task. There is no obligation. You may be contacted a number of times, with different requests, during the entire time period that vaccinations are happening in your area. In recruiting others - we urge you to tell your friends and family members that you have signed up to be a volunteer, and ask that they join you as a volunteer. Your sharing on social media that you have joined the list is another way of encouraging others to join as well.
